Get Rotten with the Sisters this Sunday

I stopped by the local Goodwill store today and picked out that special Rotten Egg outfit for the 3rd Annual Rotten Easter Egg Hunt to benefit Camp Starlight. It looks like the Easter Bunny had a little too much to eat and puked out the pink and yellow remains all over my new dress. It’s hideously beautiful! I hope you’ll make it to Ember’s this Sunday to see my fashion statement. There will be a raffle and prizes, and I promise not to hide the rotten eggs too far up my skirt. ;o)

Questions and Answers!

What is your full Sister name?
Sister Krissy Fiction, the nun that got nailed

Aliases?
Postulant Clea Taurus
Novice Sister Wilma Finger Dew

Date you joined the order?
November 2006

Date of birth?
August 4th, 1971

Home town?
I grew up in San Jose, California. I have been living in Portland, Oregon since 2001

When did you discover your calling?
The calling to be a Sister discovered me. I had always admired the Sisters and the work they do from afar, but it wasn’t until I joined and started doing the work of a Sister that I realized I had found my home.

Why did you join?
I have always believed that one should give back more than one takes. The Sisters presented an opportunity to do that in a fun and positive way.

Religious beliefs (if any)?
I believe that religion is like language. It gives us a vocabulary to speak about something which, ultimately, cannot be described. I am fluent in Christianity and in Neopaganism. I can ask where the bathroom is in Buddhism and a few others. But religion is only the outward vocabulary of an inward spirituality. The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence finds spirituality in acts of service to the community. The promulgation of omniversal joy and expiation of stigmatic guilt are spiritual concepts that allow us to serve people no matter what language they speak.

Regardless of my affinity for the unseen and the spiritual, I do, however, belong to some religious communities. I am a follower of Jesus and see Jesus as someone who was so at one with the Divine that he was love in every moment, even to the point that he loved those who were killing him. Jesus allows me to look at myself and ask what my life might look like if I were love in every moment.

I am also a member of the Ekklesia Antinoou and a devotee of Antinous, the beautiful boy from Bythynia who was the lover of the Roman Emporer Hadrian and deified after he drowned in the Nile River.

My work as Sister Krissy is devoted to and blessed by Aphrodite. I love the way that the online Temple to Aphrodite at Neos Alexandria puts it:

Aphrodite gives to her worshippers the blessings of joy, passion, freedom, whimsy, and appreciation of beauty in all of its forms. She presides over all types of love - from the primal stirring of the loins to the noblest kind of patriotism and love of the gods. The bonds of friendship and family and lovers are especially sacred to her. She brings together instead of tears apart, creates as opposed to destroys.

I can't think of anything more fitting for the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence!

Major projects with the Order?
Some projects of which I am most proud:
-World AIDS Day activities, including the Light Fantastic! retro dance party and the procession of the Veils of shame and Rememberence.
- Establishing quarterly visits with SMYRC (Sexual Minority Youth Resource Center) to connect with youth and promote safer sex among that population.
- Establishing a relationship with the Mulnomah County HIV and STD Prevention Program to do recruiting for monthly free HIV, Syphilis, and Hep C testing in local bars.

Goals and aspirations?
To creatively and effectively impact the Portland GLBT community to promote healthy sexual choices, promulgate omniversal joy, and expiate stigmatic guilt.

Other People's Words That I Find Instructive
As I grow to understand life less and less,I learn to love it more and more.
Jules Renard

The whole of life is but a moment of time. It is our duty, therefore to use it, not to misuse it.
Plutarch

Life is a pure flame, and we live by an invisible sun within us.
Sir Thomas Brown

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God
Romans 8:38-39

On the Town with Nuns and Angels

Grace and Peace!

Welcome to my little corner of the blogosphere! I hope you find this space welcoming, sometimes challenging, and always informative. My hopes are that this will be a place to extrapolate on the almost true adventures of Sister Krissy Fiction, what's going on with the Portland Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, and happenings in the larger Portland GLBT community. Look for posts to pop up here about 3 times a week. Comments are always welcome.

March got off to a great start with a night out on the town for the Portland Sisters. With our purses stuffed with bliss kits we headed out to some of the funnest bars in Portland. Bliss kits contain 2 condoms, a packet of lube, instructions on how to properly put the condoms on, and sometimes a mint or two. Think you might get laid? Then the bliss kit is for you! It's all about making sexual choices that are healthy for yourself and your partner. Not going to get laid? Then use the lube and save the condoms for another time! Douglas Adams said to never be without a towel. Well Krissy says to never be without lube! It's universal. Everyone can use it. Gay, straight, bisexual, lesbian, male, female, single, partnered, one partner, many partners. Just remember that if you're going to stick the junk in the trunk then wrap it up first!

The local hangouts we hit tonight (and recommend you patronize frequently):

When we go out, the Sisters are usually the stangest looking group of people wandering the streets of Portland:

(Sister Anna Wrecks'Ya, Sister Krissy Fiction, Novice Sister Reva Lation, Sister Mona Little-Moore, Novice Sister Alma Children, Postulant Guard Ryder Allnight, and Sister Irma Geddon in front)

One of the highlights of last night night was that we came upon an even more bizarre sight than nuns with beards and hairy chests handing out condoms. We stumbled upon a horde of angels!! (or should that be a host?) These angels were promoting the Cirque du Soleil show currently playing in Portland. Nuns and angels - it seems like a match made in *ahem* heaven.
